Steep Hill

Steep Hill is a street (cottage is 100 feet from the street!) in the historic city of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. At the top of the hill is the entrance to Lincoln Cathedral and at the bottom is Well Lane.

The Hill consists of independent shops, tea rooms and pubs, and is popular with tourists. Its name arises from the gradient of the hill, which is difficult to ascend and descend.

Today, Steep Hill is famous for its independent businesses – vintage boutiques, quaint tea rooms, chocolate & fudge parlours, and more. The steep, cobbled street, with a 16.12º gradient, was voted Britain’s Great Street in 2012 by the Academy of Urbanism and named the fourth steepest street in England by the Ordnance Survey.
